The Vape Temperature Game

The Vape Temperature Game

So many of us use our vaping devices every single day without really understanding much about what’s happening on a technological level.  We put the mouthpiece up to our lips, press the firing button, inhale a smooth cloud of vapor, enjoy a yummy flavor and blow a cloud out of our mouth.  But what exactly is making that thick liquid turn into those luxurious clouds of glorious vapor?

While you may think that it doesn’t really matter what’s happening to your e-liquid when you use a vaping device, the truth is that understanding the impressive technology behind your mod can help you better figure out your unique sweet spot.  When we talk about the sweet spot, we mean that perfect combination of settings that gives us the most satisfying amount of vapor, the tastiest flavor and the most ideal throat hit.  Without proper knowledge of vaping technology, our hobby becomes somewhat of a guessing game as we randomly adjust our settings hoping that we like what we inhale.

When it comes to vaping, temperature is one of the most crucial components in terms of the entire process.  Knowing how temperature directly affects your vape sessions is key if you want to experience the most blissful experience possible.

The Relationship Between Temperature and Your Vaping Experience

The Relationship Between Temperature and Your Vaping Experience

The way in which temperature affects your vaping experience isn’t that complicated at all, actually.  In order for e-juice to turn into vapor, heat must be applied to it.  This allows it to evaporate so that it goes from being a liquid to a thick cloud.  It’s not that different from boiling water in order to create steam.

The part of your vaping setup that’s heating that e-liquid is your coil.  Your coil is composed of a wire and a wick.  The wire part absorbs heat very well, and it receives this heat from your battery.  Once the coil heats up, the e-liquid that’s soaking in the wick gets hot enough to become the vapor that you inhale into your lungs.

The hotter the coil gets, the more e-liquid becomes vapor per hit.  Additionally, the hotter the coil, the faster the heating process.

Most vapers control this heating process by adjusting their wattage.  Most standard vaping devices are wattage-based, meaning that you adjust your output level by choosing your wattage level.  The higher the wattage, the more power is fed from the battery to your coil.  Therefore, the higher the wattage, the more e-liquid becomes vapor, and the more vapor you take in when you pull on your device.  You get the gist.  Many vapers prefer wattage-based vaping because it’s extremely easy.

Vaping a Freebase E-Liquid

Vaping a Freebase E-Liquid

As you may know, there are two types of e-liquid: freebase nic and salt nic.  Freebase nic, as the name implies, contains freebase nicotine.  Up until recently, all vape juices were made with this type of nicotine.  It’s a chemically altered form of nicotine that’s much more potent than the nicotine that’s naturally extracted from the tobacco plant.  And, because it’s been heavily modified, it’s far more unstable.

Freebase nicotine can become really harsh when it’s brought to a very high temperature, resulting in an irritating sensation along the throat.  This is why most vapers who use this type of e-juice opt for low concentrations.  This allows them to vape at high wattage levels without experiencing any of that harshness.

Finally, freebase e-liquids are vaped with sub-ohm devices.  These devices reach extremely high wattage levels and use low-resistance coils.  This allows the liquid to get very hot so that enormous, thick clouds can be enjoyed.

With an e-liquid made from nicotine salts, lower temperatures are ideal.  That’s because this type of nicotine is extremely potent in its natural state.  A very high temperature can be quite unpleasant as nicotine salts deliver a strong hit to the throat when inhaled.

Hence why the mods that are compatible with this type of juice are pod systems.  These devices are low-wattage systems that never allow the coil to get too hot.  This creates less vapor per puff, but each puff is extremely potent in terms of the amount of nicotine that it delivers, allowing users to feel perfectly satisfied.

Temperature Control

Temperature Control

While many vapers stick to wattage-based devices, more and more users are turning to temperature control (TC) mods.  These mods take the vaper’s understanding of temperature much further by allowing them to manually select and control how hot a coil can get.  By choosing a specific temperature, the vaper is ensuring that the exact amount of e-liquid is turned into vapor each time the device is fired.

Using a TC mod requires the use of very specific coils that respond to this type of technology.  These coils are designed to safely absorb a certain range of heat without burning out or burning your e-liquid.

Temperature control is a great way to vape because it helps you find your sweet spot very easily.  Because components like flavor and throat hit are determined by how hot your coil gets, TC vaping lets you ensure that each hit is the same as the last while providing the exact vaping experience that you desire.

If you want to find your sweet spot by considering how temperature affects your vaping experience, we strongly suggest investing in a TC mod.  Now, everyone’s sweet spot is different, which is why you should feel comfortable experimenting with different temperatures.  Adjust your temperature little by little until your vape session is just right.
